E3
Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 2:29PM Can't wait to update y'all on everything that goes on at E3 this year! This is my first E3 event so I'm not sure what to expect of it all. Can't wait to get peeks at upcoming games and visit lots of the panels & booths.

Pre E3
Before setting out on this trip to E3 I was warned by friends that it will sure be a crazy adventure. As I was walking up to the expo, the view was not that unusual. Giant posters on the side of the buildings up to 100ft tall! Companies sure do love to promote their big titles in the most expensive way possible. Out ront was this burger truck called "Burgerstorm" which was giving out free burgers all week to promote the new game called "Bulletstorm". I thought it was a great marketing idea since gamers love to eat, especially if it's free. (The meat was supposed to be made from the flesh of the human enemies, geddit?) I never got one because the line was always way too long.
Before the show started I attended the Microsoft & EA press events.

I also attended the Natal Experience show where they announced the official title of Natal, which is Kinect. This show hired Cirque du Soleil and had a very convincing life size robotic elephant. They made the entire audience wear these white ponchos that had shoulder pads which glow different colors and designs throughout the show. (It was quite funny watching celebs donning the outfit, not knowing what they were getting into.) The neat part was how there was no specific seating and they made different sections glow different colors. Whoa! (You'd have to look up the video if you want to see it.)
E3 (DAY 1)
During my first day there, I hung around watching my man at work doing interviews. I explored a bit but not as much as the other 2 days.
Games:
- [Gears of War 3] New characters! (2 new girls, Anya & Sam) Beast Mode was announced… class based monsters – SO MUCH FUN I LOVE THE TICKERS! New enemies in campaign – “Lambent” characters are these plant like parasites that take over organisms and transform them into nasty monsters quickly from Imulsion infection. Check it out >>
- [Bulletstorm] I could explain the game but you may not understand the awesomeness it truly is to play. You and your friends are stranded on this planet in a city that was built into a paradise until it was abandoned and left for the mutant people and monster like plant life. In this game you literally kick ass. Check it out >>
- [Deadspace 2] What I love about this game is how they integrate quick cut scene parts into the game play. For example, if I was walking through what it may seem an empty room, a big monster would jump out and an extra animation for my character would be used and knock me down onto the ground. I never beat the first one, but I will not say no to picking up the new one. The game looks great, let’s just hope it plays great too. Check it out >>
- [Medal of Honor] Even though I haven't played any MoH in a long time, the multiplayer for this game looked very well done! They had like 15 people do a live multiplayer match on stage at the E3 press conference. Talk about tempting fate and Murphy’s law… Check it out >>
- [Sims 3] Even though I haven't played Sims all that much, the trailer gave me the goose bumps. The game showed how different people grew up based on how their childhood was. This one 10 year old boy was blowing out candles on his birthday cake, then the next scene he was at his parents funeral, then it ended with him sleeping on a bench since he became a lonely bum. I don't know how they fit so much of the past Sims games into a console one. Check it out >>
Consoles:
- [Kinect] No doubt about it, this is the future for a certain type of gamer! It’s a camera that allows for similar to Wii functionality with no controllers. I still think they need a small handheld one for the more hardcore gamer who wants to play more kick ass games.
- [Move] I am looking forward to seeing what games I’d want to get that’s coming out for this.
- [360 Slim] They designed it to obviously match your PS3 ;) Yeah beautiful style to it and it's got build in WiFi, ABOUT TIME! I already have 2 working 360s so honestly... I will not be getting one for now. Although I must admit I’m tempted…
- [Nintendo 3DS] HOLY COWBUNCHIES. I had no interest in ever buying another DS until I got my hands on this one. Finally Nintendo got smart and created a handheld which has everything, analog stick and home buttons! Oh and of course, the 3D screen! I watched a short clip of the Resident Evil on there and it looked great. At first I was like WHOA this is too much until I realized you set the screen to fit your eyes. (PS: it has a metallic finish! SEXY.)

After Hours: My first party of E3 was going to a cocktail mixer at a very dark bar. This place had so many awesome people in the industry! I GOT TO MEET STAN LEE, and he was flirty. Talked to creators of the COD series, PB Winterbottom, and the beautiful Morgan Webb. Tomonobu Itagaki was there as well, without sunglasses – shows how dark the bar we were in was when even he removes his shades! The night ended with me consuming an entire bowl of mac n cheese back at my hotel.
E3 (DAY 2)
I had a mission on Day 2. Cliff sent me out on the floor all day with a bunch of the limited edition "I Gears L.A." shirts. He tweeted to his followers that whoever sees me to ask me for a shirt using the secret password "pear." lol I ran out 20 minutes after exploring the show, so I returned and he reloaded me with more shirts and changed the password. It was a fun and interesting social experiment. Gratz to all who got one of those shirts! From what I hear, they are already on EBay for like 70 bucks. If I see you selling yours up there I will kick your ass.

Honestly, I think Nintendo caught my attention the most of the day. Their games looked great, their gigantic booth had very comfortable carpet, and their booth “babes” are simply well dressed women who are trained on demoing their titles as opposed to off duty strippers who cringe at nerd sweat.
Games:
- [Epic Mickey] I saw this game in Game Informer months ago, thought it was going to be this dark side of Mickey in the game but it’s not like that at all. This one is in my top 3 games I’ve loved throughout E3! The game is 3D and you run around in the Wasteland (where all the Disney characters who were never used) need your help. I love how the level transitions are old 2D movie style mini games. Steamboat Willy ftw. Check it out >>
- [Pacman 4 player mode] I didn't get to play this because the line was so long but I heard it's so much fun! It's on my radar for sure. Check it out >>
- [Goldeneye (N64 to Wii)] So as soon as I heard about this I got excited, I always want to love the old games I use to play so much as a kid. I was hoping I ended up enjoying the game and not just liking the memory of it. I played in a 4 vs match. It had the great same feel as it did back on the N64! They added a point system that you can use to upgrade your guns and whatnot. Online, you can play with up to 8 players! (Oh, and I won the match.) Check it out >>
- [Kirby’s Epic Yarn] When I first heard there was a new Wii Kirby game coming out, I got excited and thought it was a remake of the old SNES one… but no. It’s still a cool looking game with a new neat idea. You are just a piece of yarn scrolling along a 2D world. I’d recommend checking it out >>
- [Zelda (Wii)] Finally! Nintendo heard from the fans. The new game is exactly what I was looking for a new generation Zelda. They brought back the graphics & feel that I remember Zelda being from the N64. The new controls are extremely fun and they won't cramp up those gamer hands. It doesn't require as much extreme motions from what I've seen. Day one. Check it out >>
- [Zelda Twilight Princess] I heard a rumor that this is being remade for the DS :) If so, I’ll take one please.
- [XCOM] This game takes place in the 1950's. Xcom is an agency who fights the unknown which are aliens that attack the world. Graphics have a TF2 look to them with vivid & bright colors. At the Xcom station, workers find alien spottings and then sends agents out to take care of the situation. You have AI teammates who follow you around that help you through missions by spotting enemies and things that are critical to the mission. Once you spawn into the level it’s free roam and you must use clues to find the aliens who are attacking the community. Friendly fire IS on! If you want to completely destroy houses, this game is one for you. Check it out >>
- [New Rockband] The new guitars can actually teach you to learn how to play a guitar in real life, welcome to the new generation of music sims. Check it out >>
- [Def Jam Rapstar] Finally, a rap karaoke game. Check it out >>
After Hours: Later on that night I ended up heading over the Bulletstorm party where they had unique shot names for their drinks - Mercy, Overkill, Gag Reflex, and Afterburner were a few of them. Hung out with Mighty Rasta aka Lester Speight aka Cole Train! Whoo! He is one big dude. (I was also invited to head over to the Bethesda party afterwards but the night went by so quickly! :P)
E3 (DAY 3)
Games:
- [Dead Rising 2] I'm so glad they changed all the "flaws" the first one had like the SAVING SYSTEM! I was roaming around the mall and noticed this pink little tricycle; walking up to it I prayed quickly for it to be drivable. It was indeed. I trolled, more like plowed actually, through the largest groups of zombies I could find. This thing does some good damage knocking them to the ground. First time I’ve ever done that in a videogame and it felt GOOD. Check it out >>
- [Vanquish] This game looks like Gears of War on red bull. It has a cover system, big bulky army suits, & mech suits. I saw some Lost Planet in this game, which is cool, but the screen seemed a bit over populated with the HUD. Way too much on the screen going on there for me, although the action was furious. Check it out >>
- [Deus Ex] The look and feel reminds me of Mass Effect 2 with cooler NPC interactions. The townspeople react to acts of violence for example if you pull out your gun they will get upset. Townspeople also interact with each other. Takes place in the future (2027). Demo has great music. What caught my attention the most is that it is possible to finish the game without killing any of the enemies except for the bosses. Check it out >>
- [Scott Pilgrim vs. The World the Video Game] I read the comics and at first glance the game was perfectly designed with the oldschool vibe of the graphics. This 2d side scrolling game was just the way to make this game, Final Fight style. The one I Played was on the PS3 and we got in on some 4 player co-op. One team attack is y'all can surround an enemy, hold the square button together for a few seconds and everyone pulls out their instruments from their band and it deals a great deal of damage to the enemy. Check it out >>
- [Mortal Kombat] WOWOWOWOWOWOW. I got to get hands on with this game! Finally, moving away from the 3D and heading back to 2D surroundings. If you haven’t seen anything on this game, it’s a must. There is so much detail put into this game, I can’t wait to play it on a regular basis and checking out all the new characters, levels, and fatalities! Ed Boon himself did a rocking demonstration that was bathed in blood. Check it out >>
After Hours: Attended the Xbox party which was at a building called the Edison. This place was screaming "Bioshock" because of the look and feel it had. Epic Games crew announced Ice-T was going to be a character in Gears3 so I got to meet him and his lovely wife Coco who was really sweet. I wound up having a wonderfully nerdy discussion with one of the chief architects of Natal while the guys from the TV show “Chuck” beat up on some humans in “Beast” mode for Gears.
