    Red Dead Redemption

When I first heard about this new open world "western" game my interest level was honestly at an extreme low. I saw a short play through on G4TV and at first glance it looked like a steam mod to me. It seems as the years go by in the gaming world the guns keep getting bigger and more over the top. When I think of the old west it seems as if the guns are weak and tiny and holding a gun like that in a first person shooter has never made me feel powerful. (Yeah, thats right -- I just judged a game by it's gun size.) Hearing friends rant glowingly about it finally convinced me to get the dang game.

In this free roam realm western, the world absolutely blew my mind away. I felt like I was directing my own “The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly” movie only with better graphics. There's so much detail put into every item that was placed around the terrain, it really is a sight to behold. I adapted to the controls easily with their sleek way of teaching you and was off riding and shooting in no time.

You play this beaten down to earth guy who is a freelance hitman and your storyline can change depending on the decisions you make on the various missions you choose. In the beginning you are instantly given a horse which pulled me in right away; note to developers - girls love animals. Be careful though, if you speed up on it too fast you'll be kicked off. Oh and yeah, be careful with your gun when riding around on your horse because you can shoot him in the head and kill him. No worries though, he'll respawn in a few minutes so you can call him back or go and tame a wild horse for a new one. (Hmm, I wonder if I’d be a better horse rider if I was drunk in-game?)

To be honest I spent more time running around like a fool doing useless things such as repeatedly running into the townsfolk forcing them onto the ground demanding they kiss my dusty boots than the primary tasks. I was horrible first time wagon driver... I ended up running over cowboys (which was hilarious) , had a bumpy ride hitting cacti and also had a tragic ending by accidentally guiding my horses off a cliff. Those horses will go anywhere you command them to go, even if you bring them into a lake to drown. Those situations were not intentional by any means, but were massively amusing nonetheless.

It feels like anything can happen in this game. I was minding my own business riding around on my pony (named Epona) one night until this man was crossing my path. He was yelling about something running in circles. I made my way over to I'm to see if he needed a hand or whatever. Next thing I knew he punched me off of Epona and made a break for it! The jerk set me up. I tried shooting him off until I finally got to his dead body then looted him and took my horse back. Later I realized I could have just whistled for Epona and she would have kicked him off. It appears as if Rockstar San Diego thought of everything.

You can track down bounties and be the good guy and turn them in for some nice cash or you can go on the evil path and you become the bounty in which everyone is trying to capture you. I think they did a good job of balancing the sides up, if you steal a lot you’ll get tons of money, but at the same time if you are good to the townsfolk their store prices will go down and they will offer up more side quests to help them.

80% of the hours I have put into this game I played talking to a friend on XBL while he was playing through his story. This made it more interesting as we constantly shared stories and ideas from our journeys in the wild wild west. This is "water cooler gaming" at its finest.

The game has lots of short cut scenes with the option to skip them at anytime as all games should. They're all well written and acted throughout. Note that the save points can be confusing at first so pay attention to them!

Looking for a long game with lots of fun action? Then saddle up because this one should be next on your list.

This was my initial reaction too, I am not a fan of the ol' Wild West and my general opinion was that a game based around that time era really would just not entertain me. I gave it a chance though and, like you, ended up being pleasantly surprised. I will admit that the majority of my time was spent doing the "challenges", picking flowers, hunting 'n skinning all-a dem der creeeters.. But then I'm a sucker for side quests.

neither the storyline or mission change no matter what you do and ur not freelance hitman. your trying to find and kill the members of ur old gang because government officials are keeping ur family hostage untill you find and kill your old gang

to be fair Jordan, you can take bounties which is kind of free lance.

this game with cram packed with awesomesauce...the visuals were very nice(especially the water: holy balls), the environment looks so organic.the shooting is done very well, and the in game dialogue models the early 1900s so well it just blends together so nicely!

This is a perfect game for me because I had never seen a game where some of those cowboys had to looking for Viagra Online products to having sex, that's the real or main purpose pf the game.
